RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Due to the increasing proportion of older adults in Korea and growing interest in aging, the concepts of oral aging and oral hypofunction have recently been introduced. Thus, it is necessary to investigate the age-specific oral function levels of Korean older adults and develop expert intervention methods for healthy aging. METHODS: Dysphagia, independence of daily living, and oral hypofunction were assessed in 206 older adults living in Wonju, Gangwon State, South Korea. Subjective dysphagia was assessed through self-report questionnaires using the Dysphagia Handicap Index (DHI), the Korean version of Eating Assessment Tool-10, and the Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index. In addition, the oral hypofunction assessment items included decreased chewing ability, occlusal pressure, tongue pressure, oral dryness, and oral cleanliness. RESULTS: DHI increased significantly with age, with those in their 80 s reporting the most difficulty swallowing. Oral function in terms of chewing ability (maximum occlusal pressure and number of remaining teeth), maximum occlusal pressure, and maximum tongue pressure also declined with increasing age. While there was no significant difference in oral dryness by age, those in their 80 s had dry mouth according to the criteria of the oral moisture checking device. CONCLUSIONS: In an assessment of oral function in community-dwelling, independent Korean older adults, the number of items that were assessed as oral hypofunction increased with age. The findings can be used to standardize the oral hypofunction assessment item and develop age-based individualized intervention plans for the early management of oral health and individual oral myofunctional rehabilitation in Korean community-dwelling older adults.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Spinal fusion surgery with instrumentation is a treatment of choice for many spinal disorders; however, there is little data related to factors associated with early and late outcomes, especially among patients with poor bone quality (e.g., osteoporosis). We conducted this study to characterize the epidemiology and outcomes of patients undergoing spinal fusion surgery with instrumentation in Japan, especially in patients with poor bone quality and those needing additional fixation methods. Methods: This retrospective observational study used real-world health insurance claims data from the Japanese Medical Data Vision. Adult patients undergoing an index spinal fusion procedure from April 1, 2010, to September 30, 2017, with procedural details, length of stay (LOS), total in-hospital costs, spine-related reoperation, all-cause readmission, and postoperative complications recorded. Data were summarized descriptively overall, by osteoporosis status, and additional fixation method used, and were analyzed in bivariate analyses. Multivariate logistic and linear regressions were used to explore associations between covariates and variables of interest. Results: A total of 22,932 patients (mean age, 67.3 years; 51.2% male) met the study criteria and were included. A total of 5,288 (23.0%) patients had osteoporosis, and 2,507 (10.9%) needed additional fixation methods; these patients were older, more frequently female, and had higher Elixhauser comorbidity index scores. Osteoporosis and additional fixation use were also associated with longer LOS, higher hospital costs, and higher rates of complications. Conclusions: Patients with osteoporosis and those needing additional fixation methods have a higher risk for procedural and postoperative complications, reoperation, longer LOS, and higher total hospital costs.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Managing medications for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias is challenging for caregivers. Information about caregivers' strategies to manage these challenges is needed to inform intervention development. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to understand caregivers' medication management experiences by analyzing online community discussions. METHODS: Posts were extracted from the ALZConnected® Forum using keywords "medication" and "drug" via web scraping. The researchers applied thematic analysis. RESULTS: Four major themes emerged: (1) role transition of medication management responsibilities, (2) caregivers' uncertainty about medication purpose and values, (3) conflicts between the care recipients and caregivers, and (4) difficulty accessing and affording medications. CONCLUSIONS: The experiences shared on a non-moderated, unstructured online forum indicate that medication management is challenging and overwhelming for caregivers of people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Since this is a progressive disease with various stages and changing needs, caregivers' strategies vary and are often limited by available resources and support. Health care providers should offer training and support for caregivers to navigate the transfer of medication management responsibilities and changing care needs as the disease progresses.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Verb tense production is known to be impaired in people with nonfluent aphasia. Selective past tense impairment in this population has been reported, but results are inconsistent and lacking at the discourse level. In addition, language production can be affected by discourse elicitation tasks depending on the cognitive linguistic demands and instructions unique to each task. There is limited evidence regarding whether verb tense production in people with nonfluent aphasia is impacted by discourse task demands. Understanding this potential impact is important for clinicians and researchers who are interested in assessing and then identifying effective clinical goals for this population. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the trends of verb tense production across various discourse elicitation tasks in people with nonfluent aphasia compared to people without aphasia. METHOD: Language samples for 23 people with nonfluent aphasia and 27 people without aphasia were obtained for six discourse tasks from the AphasiaBank database. We calculated ratios of past tense, present tense, future tense, imperative, and unknown verb types to compare which tense was used most frequently within and across the tasks and groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Our findings revealed evidence of verb tense production deficits and a selective past tense impairment in people with nonfluent aphasia. Discourse task effects were shown for people without aphasia but were scarce in people with nonfluent aphasia. This finding could be explained by an overall reduction of verb production and overreliance on present tense production in nonfluent aphasia. These results suggest the potential methodological implications of using different discourse tasks to evaluate verb tense production in people with nonfluent aphasia. Future studies need to evaluate discourse task effects on other aspects of verb production (e.g., moods) and specific task factors (e.g., presence or absence of visual stimulus). RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Obesity is known to increase overall disease burden but does obesity management actually help reduce disease burden? OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effects of weight loss on disease burden in people with obesity using the National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort (NHIS-HEALS) in Korea. SETTING: Pure longitudinal observational study using Nationwide cohort database. METHODS: Out of 514,866 NHIS-HEALS cohort, participants with class II obesity in Asia-Pacific region (30 ≤ body mass index [BMI] < 35) who underwent health check-up provided by NHIS during 2003-2004 (index date) were included. All final participants continued to receive a total of 5 biennial health check-ups over the next 10 years without missing. A group-based trajectory model (GBTM) was used to categorize subjects based on 10-year BMI change patterns. The changes of co-morbidities, healthcare resource utilization, and medical cost were analyzed. RESULTS: The final study subjects (9857) were categorized into 3 trajectory clusters based on the pattern of BMI (kg/m2) change: maintenance (57.35%) with an average change of -.02 ± .06, loss (38.65%) with -.04 ± .08, and substantial loss (4.0%) with -.10 ± .18. The annual increases in the number of co-morbidities per subject in each cluster were .18, .18, and .16 (all P < .001), respectively. The increase of healthcare resource utilization over time was lowest for the substantial loss compared to maintenance and loss. With each passing year, the average annual total healthcare cost increased by ₩21,200 ($16.48, P = .034) and ₩10,500 ($8.16, P = .498) in the maintenance and loss, respectively, but decreased by ₩62,500 ($48.59, P = .032) in the substantial loss. CONCLUSIONS: Weight loss in people with obesity was associated with a reduced burden of disease, as evidenced by lower co-morbidity, healthcare resource utilization rate, and decreased medical costs. This study highlights the potential positive long-term impact on Korean society when actively managing weight in individuals with obesity.

RESUMEN

Fertilizers are widely used to improve the quality of fruits and vegetables. However, the overuse of fertilizers has become an issue because it causes environmental problems and negatively affects productivity and fruit quality. In this study, we examined the effects of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) fertilizer levels on the metabolism of cucumber fruit in low- and high-nutrient soils using mass-spectrometry-based metabolomics approaches. Cucumber metabolite content was notably different depending on the initial soil nutrient status. Most amino acids and phenylpropanoids were abundant in the cucumbers raised in low-nutrient soil, whereas organic acids, some amino acids (aspartate, glutamate, and ornithine), and carbohydrates were comparatively higher in fruits from high-nutrient soil. The fertilizer supply resulted in an alteration in the metabolite profile, while no change in fruit yield was observed in either low- or high-nutrient soils. Fertilizer treatment perturbed the metabolite contents in cucumbers from low-nutrient soil. In contrast, treatment with higher concentrations of fertilizer in high-nutrient soil increased phenylpropanoid content in the cucumbers, while most metabolites decreased. In conclusion, fertilization levels should be carefully determined, considering culture conditions such as the original soil status, to increase product yield and fruit quality and avoid environmental problems.

RESUMEN

Purpose: To assess the safety and feasibility of intentionally positioning the catheter tip in the right atrium (RA) without an abutment during implantation of a totally implantable venous access port (TIVAP). Materials and Methods: We enrolled 330 patients who had undergone TIVAP implantation between January and December 2016 and postoperative chest CT. The TIVAP was placed using the single-incision technique to access the axillary vein directly from the incision line. To position the catheter tip in the RA without abutment, blood return was checked before cutting. Catheter length and complications were evaluated by retrospectively reviewing medical images and records. Results: All patients achieved successful catheter tip positioning without abutment or dysfunction. The median tip position was 15.3 mm distal to the cavoatrial junction (CAJ) on fluoroscopy and 6 mm distal to the CAJ on CT. Catheter tips migrated a median of 10.4 mm cephalically on CT compared to fluoroscopy. Thromboses were detected in the RA and superior vena cava in one patient each. Conclusion: Intentional catheter tip positioning in the RA without abutment is a safe and feasible technique with a low incidence of thrombosis and no observed dysfunction.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: With the global increase in the older population, the proportion of those receiving care in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) has also been increasing. We assessed the epidemiology, antibiotic susceptibility, and colonization status of drug-resistant organisms in patients transferred from LTCFs. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients transferred from LTCFs between 2017 and 2022. The reasons for admission, antimicrobial susceptibility, and colonization rates of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) were recorded. We analyzed the susceptibility and colonization rates by year to identify trends. RESULTS: Of the 936 patients transferred from LTCFs, 54.3% were admitted to the intensive care unit and 12.5% died. The most common reason for admission was infection (n = 573, 61.2%), followed by gastrointestinal bleeding (n = 67, 7.2%) and cerebrovascular disorder (n = 65, 6.9%). A total of 452 Enterobacterales strains were isolated, and their susceptibility rates to ciprofloxacin and cefotaxime were 33.3% and 35.6%, respectively. A total of 54.9% were extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing strains, and 4.9% of them were carbapenem-resistant, both of which showed an increasing trend (P = 0.024 and P < 0.001, respectively). The prevalence rates of CRE, CRAB, and MRSA colonization were 9.2%, 7.1%, and 23.1%, respectively. CRE colonization showed a significant increase (P < 0.001), with carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales accounting for 75.9% of cases. CONCLUSIONS: Patients transferred from LTCFs are primarily affected by infections and exhibit high resistance rates. The increasing trend in CRE colonization rates each year highlights the need for the implementation of rigorous infection control measures for effective management.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to establish the validity-specifically, the sensitivity and specificity-of the screening questionnaire and diagnostic criteria for oral frailty proposed by the Korean Academy of Geriatric Dentistry (KAGD) among community-dwelling older adults. METHODS: This study enrolled 100 participants. Among various definitions of oral frailty, this study used the criteria proposed by Tanaka as the reference test. The screening questionnaire consisted of 11 items for screening physical frailty, chewing ability, swallowing difficulties, oral dryness, and tongue and lip motor function. Each question had a different scoring weight, and if the total score was 1 or higher, an oral frailty diagnostic examination proposed by the KAGD would be recommended. The diagnostic test was the oral frailty diagnostic criteria proposed by the KAGD including 6 measures: chewing ability, occlusal force, tongue pressure, oral dryness, swallowing difficulty, and oral hygiene. If a participant exhibited 2 or more positive measures, this participant was classified as "oral frail." The screening questionnaire was analyzed using a cut-off value of 1 or higher, while the diagnostic criteria utilized a cut-off of 2 or more positive measures. Sensitivity and specificity were calculated. RESULTS: The screening questionnaire showed significant power for screening oral frailty (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, 0.783; sensitivity, 87.8%; specificity, 52.5%). The diagnostic accuracy of the newly proposed diagnostic criteria was acceptable (sensitivity, 95.1%; specificity, 42.4%). CONCLUSIONS: The newly proposed screening questionnaire and diagnostic criteria in Korea appear to be a useful tool to identify oral frailty in community-dwelling older adults.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors target SGLT2 in renal proximal tubules and promote glycosuria in type 2 diabetes mellitus in humans and animal models, resulting in reduced blood glucose levels. Although clinical trials have shown that SGLT2 inhibitors attenuate the progression of chronic kidney disease, there have been concerns regarding SGLT2-induced acute kidney injury. In this study, we investigated the effect of SGLT2 inhibitors on adriamycin-induced kidney injury in mice. METHODS: Seven-week-old balb/c mice were injected with adriamycin 11.5 mg/kg via the tail vein. Additionally, dapagliflozin was administered via gavage for 2 weeks. The mice were divided into five groups: vehicle, dapagliflozin 3 mg/kg, adriamycin, adriamycin plus dapagliflozin 1 mg/kg, and adriamycin plus dapagliflozin 3 mg/kg. RESULTS: Adriamycin injection reduced the body weight and food and water intakes. Dapagliflozin also decreased the body weight and food and water intakes. Fasting blood glucose and urine volume were not altered by either adriamycin or dapagliflozin. Once adriamycin-induced kidney injury had developed, there were no differences in systolic blood pressure among the groups. Dapagliflozin did not alleviate proteinuria in adriamycin-induced kidney injury. Adriamycin induced significant glomerular and interstitial injury, but dapagliflozin did not attenuate these changes in renal injury. Interestingly, SGLT2 expressions were different between the cortex and medulla of kidneys by dapagliflozin treatment. Dapagliflozin increased SGLT2 expression in medulla, not in cortex. CONCLUSION: Dapagliflozin had no effect on proteinuria or inflammatory changes such as glomerular and tubular damages in adriamycin-induced kidney injury. Our study suggests that dapagliflozin does not protect against adriamycin-induced kidney injury. More experimental studies regarding the effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on various kidney diseases are needed to clarify the underlying mechanisms.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Disseminated nontuberculous mycobacterial (D-NTM) disease occurs primarily in immunocompromised hosts. However, these cases have rarely been reported in South Korea. This study aimed to describe the clinical manifestations, disease course, and underlying immune deficiencies of patients with D-NTM disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the cases of D-NTM disease from January 2005 to December 2019 at a tertiary referral hospital in South Korea. D-NTM disease was defined as a bloodstream infection or infection of two or more non-contiguous body organs with species identification. RESULTS: Of the 53342 mycobacterial samples from 23338 patients, extrapulmonary NTM was detected in 104 patients, and 3 (2.9%) were diagnosed with D-NTM disease. Mycobacterium avium was isolated from two patients, while M. abscessus subspecies abscessus was identified in one. The patients were aged between 18 and 25 years, and two patients were male. All patients were immunocompromised - one received lung transplantation, one was diagnosed with anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia with T-cell immune deficiency, and one had monocytopenia and mycobacterial infection syndrome associated with GATA2 mutations. All patients underwent a standard macrolide-based regimen for >5 months, and their sputum tested negative. However, one patient died of bacterial sepsis, while the other two survived. CONCLUSION: D-NTM disease is rare in a tertiary referral center in South Korea. They occur primarily in immunocompromised patients at a relatively young age. Careful investigation of the underlying immune status is required when treating patients with D-NTM disease.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study is to examine how physical function, physical activity, and sleep are related to depressive symptoms in older adults using a nonlinear model. The participants were 283 Korean older adults aged 65 and older who met the study inclusion criteria. Depressive symptoms were measured using the shortened version of the Geriatric Depression Scale in Korean (SGDS-K). Physical activity and sleep time were objectively quantified by continuously monitoring participants over 20 consecutive days using a triaxial accelerometer. Physical function was evaluated using five distinct measurements: grip strength, gait speed, the Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), the Six-Minute Walk Test (SMWT), and the Five Times Sit to Stand Test (FTSST). The SMWT, gait speed, and MVPA exhibited a nonlinear relationship with depressive symptoms. However, other physical functions showed linear relationships. Also, sleep time showed a U-shaped trend starting at approximately 390 min. After adjusting for age, sex, drinking, and smoking in the logistic regression model, SMWT, MVPA, and sleep time were significantly associated with depressive symptoms. The outcomes highlight the importance of considering multiple factors in understanding depression among the elderly, particularly the intricate interactions between these elements and biological rhythms.

RESUMEN

Oligodendrocytes are specialized cells that insulate and support axons with their myelin membrane, allowing proper brain function. Here, we identify lamin A/C (LMNA/C) as essential for transcriptional and functional stability of myelinating oligodendrocytes. We show that LMNA/C levels increase with differentiation of progenitors and that loss of Lmna in differentiated oligodendrocytes profoundly alters their chromatin accessibility and transcriptional signature. Lmna deletion in myelinating glia is compatible with normal developmental myelination. However, altered chromatin accessibility is detected in fully differentiated oligodendrocytes together with increased expression of progenitor genes and decreased levels of lipid-related transcription factors and inner mitochondrial membrane transcripts. These changes are accompanied by altered brain metabolism, lower levels of myelin-related lipids, and altered mitochondrial structure in oligodendrocytes, thereby resulting in myelin thinning and the development of a progressively worsening motor phenotype. Overall, our data identify LMNA/C as essential for maintaining the transcriptional and functional stability of myelinating oligodendrocytes.

RESUMEN

Background: Osteoporosis is common among elderly patients and can result in vertebral fractures requiring surgical treatment. This study assessed clinical outcomes associated with spinal surgery in patients with osteoporosis/osteopenia with an additional focus on Asian patients. Methods: A PRISMA-compliant systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted using the PubMed and ProQuest databases to identify articles published up to May 27, 2021, that included outcomes for patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia undergoing spinal surgery. Statistical analysis was conducted comparing rates of proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK)/proximal junctional failure (PJF), implant loosening, and revision surgery. A qualitative summary of Asian studies was also conducted. Results: A total of 16 studies comprising 133,086 patients were included; among the 15 studies reporting rates of osteoporosis/osteopenia, 12.1% (16,127/132,302) of patients overall and 38.0% (106/279) of Asian patients (n=4 studies) had osteoporosis/osteopenia. The risks of PJK/PJF (relative risk [RR]=1.89; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.22-2.92, p=0.004), screw loosening (RR=2.59; 95% CI=1.67-4.01, p<0.0001), and revision surgery (RR=1.65; 95% CI=1.13-2.42, p=0.010) were higher in patients with poor bone quality compared with those with healthy bone. In the qualitative review of Asian studies, all studies found that osteoporosis increased the risk of complications and/or revision for spinal surgery patients. Conclusions: This systematic literature review and meta-analysis indicate that spinal surgery patients with compromised bone quality have more complications and higher healthcare utilization than those with normal bone quality. To our knowledge, this is the first study to focus on the pathophysiology and disease burden among Asian patients. Given the high rate of poor bone quality in this aging population, additional high-quality Asian studies, with uniform definitions and data reporting, are needed.

RESUMEN

We have previously found that long-term effects of exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields in 5×FAD mice with severe late-stage Alzheimer's disease reduced both amyloid-ß deposition and glial activation, including microglia. To examine whether this therapeutic effect is due to the regulation of activated microglia, we analyzed microglial gene expression profiles and the existence of microglia in the brain in this study. 5×FAD mice at the age of 1.5 months were assigned to sham- and radiofrequency electromagnetic fields-exposed groups and then animals were exposed to 1950 MHz radiofrequency electromagnetic fields at a specific absorption rate of 5 W/kg for 2 hours/day and 5 days/week for 6 months. We conducted behavioral tests including the object recognition and Y-maze tests and molecular and histopathological analysis of amyloid precursor protein/amyloid-beta metabolism in brain tissue. We confirmed that radiofrequency electromagnetic field exposure for 6 months ameliorated cognitive impairment and amyloid-ß deposition. The expression levels of Iba1 (pan-microglial marker) and colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF1R; regulates microglial proliferation) in the hippocampus in 5×FAD mice treated with radiofrequency electromagnetic fields were significantly reduced compared with those of the sham-exposed group. Subsequently, we analyzed the expression levels of genes related to microgliosis and microglial function in the radiofrequency electromagnetic fields-exposed group compared to those of a CSF1R inhibitor (PLX3397)-treated group. Both radiofrequency electromagnetic fields and PLX3397 suppressed the levels of genes related to microgliosis (Csf1r, CD68, and Ccl6) and pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1ß. Notably, the expression levels of genes related to microglial function, including Trem2, Fcgr1a, Ctss, and Spi1, were decreased after long-term radiofrequency electromagnetic field exposure, which was also observed in response to microglial suppression by PLX3397. These results showed that radiofrequency electromagnetic fields ameliorated amyloid-ß pathology and cognitive impairment by suppressing amyloid-ß deposition-induced microgliosis and their key regulator, CSF1R.

RESUMEN

In this study, we developed a method for detecting 335 pesticides in ginseng using liquid chromatography quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and gas chromatography quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). Additionally, the linearity, sensitivity, selectivity, accuracy, and precision of the method was validated. The limits of detection (LOD) and limits of quantification (LOQ) for the instrument used in these experiments was 0.1-5.8 µg/kg and 0.3-17.5 µg/kg, respectively. The average recovery was 71.6-113.4%. From 2016 to 2019, 467 ginseng samples were analyzed, of which 304 samples detected pesticide residues, but most of them were below the standard. It can be observed that the hazard quotient (HQ) of ginseng for detected pesticides was less than 1, thus implying that the risk was low. Hence, in this study, we developed a specific, reliable, and suitable method for a fast and simultaneous analysis of 335 pesticides in ginseng.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate how people with nonfluent aphasia produce semantically weighted verbs compared to people without aphasia, as well as how a discourse elicitation task affects verb production in people with nonfluent aphasia and people without aphasia. METHOD: This study included 30 people with nonfluent aphasia and 32 age-matched people without aphasia from AphasiaBank. Language samples of five different discourse tasks were obtained and coded for heavy, light, and be-copular verbs. The number of verbs per utterance and the proportion of heavy, light, and be-copular verbs were compared between groups and between tasks. RESULTS: People with nonfluent aphasia showed a similar proportion of heavy verbs but reduced verbs per utterance and proportion of light verbs compared to people without aphasia. With regard to discourse task effects, we found a trend for a higher proportion of heavy verbs in sequential picture descriptions, and a higher proportion of be-copular verbs and lower proportion of heavy verbs for a recount compared to other tasks in people without aphasia. The discourse task effects were minimally found in people with nonfluent aphasia. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that people with nonfluent aphasia present with relatively preserved heavy verb production but with impaired production of light verbs in discourse. In addition, it appears that discourse tasks do not significantly influence the type of verbs produced by people with nonfluent aphasia possibly due to the floor effects and wide range of individual variability. This study is a preliminary effort to evaluate methodological factors that impact verb production; future studies are needed to develop a framework for clinical decision making when selecting a discourse elicitation task for people with aphasia.

RESUMEN

The discovery of selective and potent kinase inhibitors is crucial for the treatment of various diseases, but the process is challenging due to the high structural similarity among kinases. Efficient kinome-wide bioactivity profiling is essential for understanding kinase function and identifying selective inhibitors. In this study, we propose AiKPro, a deep learning model that combines structure-validated multiple sequence alignments and molecular 3D conformer ensemble descriptors to predict kinase-ligand binding affinities. Our deep learning model uses an attention-based mechanism to capture complex patterns in the interactions between the kinase and the ligand. To assess the performance of AiKPro, we evaluated the impact of descriptors, the predictability for untrained kinases and compounds, and kinase activity profiling based on odd ratios. Our model, AiKPro, shows good Pearson's correlation coefficients of 0.88 and 0.87 for the test set and for the untrained sets of compounds, respectively, which also shows the robustness of the model. AiKPro shows good kinase-activity profiles across the kinome, potentially facilitating the discovery of novel interactions and selective inhibitors. Our approach holds potential implications for the discovery of novel, selective kinase inhibitors and guiding rational drug design.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to examine the results of designing and implementing a teaching program for medical education as the elective course for 4th-year students of medical course. METHODS: In order to design the teaching program for medical education as an elective course, we conducted literature review, five medical education experts were interviewed, and the literature required in the design process was reviewed. A developing teaching program was implemented as an elective course in a medical school of Korea, and 4th-year students of medical course participated in the program. RESULTS: In the elective course, the medical education program process competencies were derived into three categories: theoretical educational knowledge, teaching competency, and research competency for education. Moreover, instructional materials were developed to help students achieve these competencies. And project-based learning strategy was selected and implemented for 4th-year students in medical course, and positive satisfaction was confirmed. CONCLUSION: As a study designed and implemented in a medical education program in a medical school in Korea, it is expected to be helpful when introducing medical education to undergraduate students or developing a medical education program to strengthen the teaching capacity of residents.
